With reference to your letter 144,710 S.C.) of the

25th ultimo and to previous correspondence relative to 12

cases of German umbrella frames in transit for Hong Kong,

I am directed to forward herewith, copies of correspondence

with the General Steam Navigation Company and of the opinion

of Council to whom the question of prosecuting the Steamship

Co. was submitted by the Director of Public Prosecutions

and to say that the Secretary of State concurs in this dpinion,

A copy of a letter from the Colonial Ofrice is enclosed

and I am to suggest that, if there is no power to detain

or confiscate the goods in this country, the Colonial Office

should be acquainted with the date of departure for Hong Kong.
